Recurring Bacterial Vaginosis For Years. Will Using Yogurt In Vagina Or Placing Vitamin C Tablet Help?
I have had BV for around 15 years off and on (more on than off). I have been seen by 4 different doctors for this infection that keeps reoccurring. My question is how can I treat this at home b/c obviously the script that are prescribed are not working. Plus after all these years I have had to build up some kind of tolerance to them. I heard using yogurt in the vagina or placing a vitamin C tablet in there will help, but how much and for how long if this is an acceptable method?
If the infection is recurring, it indicates that the normal vaginal flora is now overpowered by BV organisms. I suggest that instead of using yogurt, use lactobacillus vaginal pessaries for 10 days preferably immediately after periods. If there is active infection now, use clindamycin and metronidazole combined pessaries during the initial three days followed by lactobacillus pessaries for next 10 days. Avoid sex if possible till the normal flora gets established [that is until ongoing treatment]. You may need to use lactobacillus tablets for 2-3 months to get rid of the disease. The use of vitamin C vaginal tablets has been researched, the evidence is positive but not overwhelming. Using them once daily for 6 days after periods for 6 consecutive months. Hope this is helpful. Thanks for the query.
