Recurring Mild Pain On The Heart Area Radiating To The Jaw And The Whole Head, Enlarged Heart, High BP, On BP Treatment. Cause?
i have had this pain on the heart area and took it to the cardiologist who did some tests and told me my heart is a little enlarged and there s nothing else worrisome about it. He then told me it s because of the raised BP . I started taking BP treatment but the pains still comes back, though mild but it still haunts me. It sometimes extends to the left jaw which eventually attacks the whole head. What could this be?
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
Although your symptoms are suggestive of classic angina, a form of ischemic heart disease(IHD), it could also result from gastro esophageal reflux disease(GERD). I presume your cardiologist would have done a treadmill test to rule out ischemic heart disease. If this has not been done, it needs to be done so that we can rule out IHD. If GERD is a condition which can closely mimic IHD. It results from the reflux of the food from stomach into the food pipe.
If this is the case, the following measures would help:
a. Small meals at regular intervals
b. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and smoking
c. Elevate your head while sleeping
d. Tablet Prevacid OTC once daily before breakfast for 5-7 days should help relieve the pain.
