Recurring Throat Infections, Nasal Secretions Dripping Into Throat. Treatment For Symptoms?

Hello, i have had throat infections sveral times lately. Once in October 2012, the other in december 2012, another time at the beggining of febuary 2013, and now it is comming back. All of the times have been treaten with antibiotics curing me. But the last 2 times nasal secretion keeps going to my throat even though i do not have an infection. I did go to the laboratory to get it checked, the document said it is a streptococus and with what antibiotics it can be cured, muy the last time I followed that test but any way I think my throat is newely infected.

Hi and thanks for your query,
Having recurrent throat infections demand an investigation to determine the predisposing factors. Posterior nasal drip could be an indication of a chronic sinusitis. It would be interesting determine the structure and sizes of your tonsils through a thorough ENT examination.
Resistance to common antibiotics could also be a cause of these recurrent infections. A sputum culture of the sample and anti biotic sensitivity test shall be very important in choosing the appropriate anti biotic.
Consulting an ENT specialist is the ideal thing to do.
Thanks and best regards,

Hi David,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, it seems that the cause of your recurrent throat infection is improper treatment.
The infection can also recur if your immunity is low.

You should get a latest throat swab culture done and take proper antibiotics as per the culture/senstivity report.
Also take antihistaminic like Fenofexadine 120 mg once a day along with decongestant like phenylepherine. This will help in controlling the post nasal drip(nasal secretion dripping into the throat).

Warm saline gargles will also be helpful in relief from your symptoms. You can take fresh fruits and vegetables add Vitamin C supplement to boost your immunity. Always wash your hands before eating as this prevents entry of infective organisms into our body.

Also get yourself examined and investigated by an ENT specialist and take any medicine under medical supervision only.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
