Red Spot On Shoulder, Skin Dry And Peeling Also Having Muscle Aches, Minor Inflammation. Is It An Allergy?

Since mid July of this year, I began to notice a red spot on my shoulder that seemed to be dry and my skin kept peeling off of that area. Since July this red spot has began to spread up around the top of my left shoulder and all the skin in this area seems to be shedding lightly ever day. At first I thought it might be ringworm as I have had that in the past but it doesn't itch or is sensitive to touch. However, in the last week or so I have began to feel muscle aches and minor inflammation around that area as well as on the left side of my neck closer to the redness. I haven't had a change in diet or a change in laundry detergent. I don't believe this is a food allergy or an allergy of any kind. What do you think?

Dermatologist 's  Response

Hi,
I am quite empathetic to the red spot on shoulder, skin dry and peeling also having muscle aches, minor inflammation. I have gone through your query with diligence and after reading your history it appears that you might have developed either fungal infection or allergic contact dermatitis to some contact allergen.

You recollect if you have scratched it or anything new coming in your contact before appearance of the rash.
I advise you to not pinch or pop the area otherwise these areas are very prone for getting secondary infection. For time being period you can apply antibiotic cream such as fucidin or mupirocin and take antihistamine tablet such as loratadine or cetrizine. Do not try to even touch or pinch the area as can cause more aggravation of the problem.

You should preferably meet a dermatologist who can examine you physically and provide you the best treatment.
Take care.
