Red Spot, Swelling, Redness After Pulling Hair Follicle. On Augmentin And Antibacterial Soap. Is It Cellulitis?

Avid cyslist, never miss a day. Usually 5 - 25 miles per day.
I pulled a hair from a follicle on the mid to lower part of my neck..right side. The next morning, small red spot on site. 24 hours later - larger red spot, a bit swollen - no pus. 24 hours more and I had a golf ball sized swelling (still no weeping fluid) and redness is traveling down my chest. On Augmentum for 48 hours now - only getting larger, has grown to lacrosse ball size and is very hard. Is it possible I got a staph infection from my bicycle helmet straps? I've since washed them in antibacterial soap.
Next step is IV antibiotics 12 hours from now.....but quite concerned at this point. Doctor says it is cellulitis.

Dermatologist 's  Response
hi,
thanks for writing to us.
As the doctor said, it seems to be a case of cellulitis. Cellulitis is a bacterial infection of deep skin tissues caused by bacteria staph aureus. in your case tugging at your hair led to the same. usually it responds to oral antibiotics but as in your case, the response has not been desirable that's why your doctor wants to out you in intravenous drugs. do not be concerned, with I/v antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs the swelling should reduce in a week.
Hope that helped.
Take care
