Reddish Splotches On The Legs, Swollen Ankles And Pain. Could It Be Henoch-schonlein Purpura?

My Grandson has red blotches on his legs, swollen ankles and has trouble walking due to pain. No one has kicked him, nor has he eaten anything different. It happened right ofter swimming lessons in a public pool. Could this possibly be Henoch-Schonlein Purpura , and if so, what do we do? Thank you much! I only have $20 until I get paid; may we delay payment - He is really in need.

Hi ,
Welcome to HCM & thanks for writing in.
Henoch schonlein purpura occurs in childhood.It is usually accompanied by fever ,joint pain,abdominal pain.Does your grandson has any of this?
HSP is usually self limiting ,paracetamol tablets for pain and fever are all that is required.
A renal function test is to be done.
Usually it subsides on its own but sometimes it may become chronic.
A visit to dermatologist or pediatrician will confirm the diagnosis .
