Replaced Depression Medication With Buspin, Pari CR Plus HS, Spectra, Olanzepine Due To Gastro Problems. Any Problem With Cheaper Previous Medicines?

My mother is old patient of Major Depression and under continuous medication since 1990. Recently as she was facing some gastro problems like burning sensation in abdomen and growing up to neck and whole body, when we consulted a psychiatrist, he replaced her old medicines i.e. Alprax, Impremine and fluxotine with 1. Tab Buspin 5mg TDS 2. Tab Pari CR Plus HS (at night) 3. Cap Spectra 25 mg BD and 4. Tab Olanzepine 2.5 mg BD
I wish to know that was there any problem with old medicines which caused her new problems? and also suggest some alternate medicine for Tab Pari CR Plus & Cap Spectra as these are easily not available and also more costly. Can we continue with her old medicines as those are easily available and much cheaper as well.
Thanx!

Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic!

I understand that the medicines were changed because of the complaint of burning sensation in abdomen, neck and rest of the body. In my experience, this may not have been due to the medicines she was on, that is, fluoxetine, imipramine and alprazolam, but could have been due to other reasons like acidity or post-menopausal hot flushes. Out of her present medications, Pari CR plus is of the same class as fluoxetine and Spectra as imipramine.

I would have been able to advise you better if you could have let me know since when she was on the old medicines and when did the burning sensation start. I would also have liked to know whether the burning sensation improved on changing the medicines. If it hasn't, then you should ask your doctor to look for other reasons for the burning sensation and request him to change over to the previous medicines.

Hope this answers your query. Best wishes.
