Im a 26 yo male with no pmhx, did a spirometry test twice back to back which gave me the results of moderate restriction. I have a 7 year h/x of smoking 10x/day. Also on that day I drank only a caffeinated coffee which causes me alot of gas and bloating. My questions is can the gas and bloating have caused the test results. Sometimes when I get alot of gas its hard for me to catch my breath or complete a full yawn, or am I dying from some restrictive lung disease? Please help. You can email me at noobrt24@yahoo.com
Gas and bloating cannot effect the results of spirometry. But if you had a breathing difficulty that day , it could have affected. But with a history of 7 years smoking , you probably have a lung disease. You can redo the test.
Do you feel bloated even on normal days ? If so you might be having Dyspepsia. You can visit your Doctor to get evaluated.
Take care.
