Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is 73 and has Rheuaatoid Arthritis and gout and chlorestoral and takes medicine for all. Otherwise healthy, bu says he feels light headed often and cannot seem to walk a straight line. He is worried. He has a physical coming up next week. Probablem is, the PCP says everything is 'just old age' His mother lived to 101, so I don't think that is it. thanks for any suggestions.
I have gone through your question and it says that your father, 71 yrs male, has gout, rheumatoid arthritis and increased cholesterol, has started feeling light head and can't walk in straight line. you have not mentioned the duration of illness and there is no information about his blood pressure and sugar levels.
Had I been his doctor I would have ask him to gat an MRI brain done and check his vitals, like blood pressure and blood sugar. As theses symptoms can be due to fluctuations in BP and sugar levels or due to cerebellar dysfunction.
There is difficulty in walking in straight line, this finding nessiciates certain other cerebellar tests which are done by the patient by asking him do certain steps.
As your father is otherwise healthy and takes his medicines daily, the findings should be looked into.
Hope the reply helps you in convincing your doctor to get him checked thoroughly. Feel free to ask more queries.
