Risk Of Serotonin Syndrome If Trazodone Is Taken For Migraine. Can I Take Temazepam?
I have been given trazodone 50 mg3 or 4 at bedtime and also temazepam 2 tablets at bedtime. I never take them both on the same night, as sometimes I take a naraitriptan for migraine so can t take the trazodone because of risk of serotonin syndrome so take the temazepam but I find with the temazepam, I awake in four hours, so the other night took three trazodone and one tamazapam and my first perfect whole night sleep...is this safe to take this combo?
Hi, As you have rightly pointed out taking Trazodone 200mg (50mg 3-4 tablets) along with a triptan runs the risk of serotonin syndrome. But I would like to know that why you have been prescribed Trazodone? is it for sleep only? if it is so, then we can simply try & hike dose of trazodone further to ensure good sleep. Upper limit of up to 600 mg of trazodone is considered safe. You can top it up (if required) by short acting meds like Zolpidem (non addictive), sleep hygiene measures etc. for sleep induction. Kindly discuss these options with your doctor. Good luck
