Root Canal Done In Bottom Tooth, Pain Spread To Several Bottom Teeth. Treatment For Pain?
i went to the dentist about 2 days ago, and they started a root canal in one of my bottom teeth . so i think they just drilled the hole to the release the pressure. since then the pain that i have been having in that tooth has now spread to several of my bottom teeth. i need help, i cant sleep at night because of the pain.
Dear ukiekids thanks for your question
although I am not a dentist but due to my experience during my graduation I can try to solve your query.
Actually during root canal procedure debridement of nerve roots are done in canals of tooth (2 or 3 depending upon type of tooth). So while root canaling is done despite proper asepsis there are chances of inflammation as it may pass via instruments (rare), or by irritation of irrigation fluid or inflammation may occur as normal protective phenomenon by body. So it may result in accumulation of exudate in tiny cavities which may cause pain by pressure sensation, via inflammation its self, by irritation to nerve roots which may result in referral to other routes and it appear that pain is spreading to other teeth. Best medicine used to counter mild to moderate toothache is Brufen tablets if you are not allergic to NSAID drugs, and in severe cases tab/ capsule Tremadol can be used which will calm you.
Secondly take proper antibiotic cover for at least three days.
don't take hot beverages, hard food.
thanks
hope i solved your query

dear friend
since your root canal has started two days back i can understand that it is quite painful till the time your tooth is under anesthetic effect it does not pain that much ,but once the effect of local anesthesia wears off you start feeling pain which gradually increases. for that, you can request your dentist to give you pain killer,eg ( combiflam, just before the effect of anesthesia wears off, i e once your dental seating gets over immediately take the pain killer. and you can continue this for every six hourly for another two to three days till your canal preparation is completed after that i am sure you will not have any pain in that particular tooth and the adjacent teeth.
a single nerve supplies to most of the tooth in lower jaw so you are feeling this pain in several teeth ,but need not worry once your root canal is done you will not have this problem.
i hope your dentist would have prescribed you antibiotic and pain killer. if not, you can request your dentist for a course of antibiotic and pain killer for three days.
thank you
hi and welcome to HCM,
Root canal treatment is done over the infected or decayed teeth to remove the infected tooth nerve , clean and shape the root canals, disinfect it and fill it with a permanent root canal medicament.
As you are undergoing root canal treatment , the dental nerve tissue has to be extirpated completely that is the tooth has to be devitalize to relieve the pain permanently .
i suggest you to talk to your dentist about this , once the procedure is completed there is no question of pain.
meantime you can start with analgesics with anti inflammatory like aceclofenac with serratiopeptidase tablets thrice daily for pain relief.
i hope this helps,
take care.
Hello,
Thanks for sharing your concern with us.
Yes it could be a failed root canal treatment, may be some periapical infection left behind before completing root canal treatment,
sometime in grossly decayed teeh periapical granuloma become which is difficult to treat only with RCT, and if you are feeling metallic taste only on that side there may be some sinus formation, from where pus is draining and causing the symptoms.
i will advise you to visit your dental surgeon and go for an check X-ray for proper treatment of these teeth.
You can contact me again directly through my profile.
