Scan Done. Suggested To Check With Neurologist. What Could Be The Issue?
Hi this is karthik , I look my wife today for - 32 week US scan and below are reports. Doctor adviced me to check with Neurologist. Can you please clarify what could be the issue.
The Ultra sound report says :
placenta appears bulky with a maximum thickness of 5cms with grade 2 maturity.
Amniotic Fluid is adequate. AFI 11 cms
A posterior fossa cyst communicating with the 4th ventricle is noted. The 4th Ventricle measures 9mm in AP diameter. The Cisterna magna measures 10mm.
GA - 32 weeks
GA as per Ultra scan - 29 weeks 6 days.

There is a cyst in the brain of the baby which is filled with fluid. This cyst might be a continuing with the fourth ventricle. This can be what is termed as a Dandy Walker malformation or a variant. It can also be an arachnoid cyst. In these situations the baby brain functions can vary from normal to slightly impaired. This will show up as the baby grows. These things are seen in approximately 1 in 30000 births.
In India we have legal bindings that say a pregnancy beyond 28 weeks must be continued till delivery. You have the option of getting your wife consulted by any hospital having a special fetal medicine department and they will guide you further.

There is problem in USG report of your wife. As per USG report, there is problem in the posterior part of brain of your baby.
Thats why you are advised to check to a nearby Pediatric Neurologist, and get the treatment plan for that. He will guide you more about the disease and its future complications (in case if it happens).
