Hello and welcome to HCM,

I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.

It is expected at 6 weeks to see yolk sac. However if the pregnancy is a delayed conception, meaning ovulation occurred later than what is assumed from the last menstrual period, the pregnancy will show lesser gestation and late formation of yolk sac and fetal pole.

If the baby is showing growth then there is a possibility that fetal pole may be seen in the next scan. Please do not repeat scans so early. I suggest that you get a transvaginal scan after 2 weeks. If there is still no fetal pole, this is more likely a missed abortion.

Do not worry so much. Just wait and start folic acid as well as progesterone tablets to help in preventing abortion and repeat scan after 2 weeks.

Thanks for using HCM.
Have a good day.
