Scratch From The Pet Which Is Not Vaccinated. Treated For Tetanus. Need To Take A Rabies Injection?
Today while playing with my pet cat, which has been given no vaccine and is 2 years of age, got a cut in the middle finger of my right hand.few drops of blood came out from there . I washed the place with soap and applied antiseptic lotion.then i went to a doctor who treated me with titnus.do i have to take rabies injections.and what are the precaution i should take while undergoing the treatment?
As rabies has no cure, we suggest vaccination for any suspicious exposure.
Usually it is bite and exposure to saliva which transmits virus.
The chances of transmission are very, very rare through scratch wounds. However in your case, I would suggest you to take post exposure vaccination at the earliest - active vaccination with HDCV on day 0.3,7,14 and 28.
You have already taken tetanus vaccine ,There is no other precaution is required.
Please take care
Good luck.
