Sebaceous Cysts On Right Side Behind Neck, No Head On Cysts, Cannot Drain Them. Treatment Options?

I have diagnosis of sebaceous cysts on right side back of neck . Doctor put me on antibiotics on Monday and cysts has doubled in size in 24 hrs. I keep putting heat on it to help with pain. But it seems that only makes it larger. There is no head on cysts so she can t drain it until head appears. What else should I be concerned about? She said come back Friday and will do something with cysts. Can You help me understand more of what to expect? Thank you

Hello,
A sebaceous cyst is a closed sac under the skin filled with a cheese-like or oily material.
Sebaceous cysts most often arise from swollen hair follicles. Skin trauma can also induce a cyst to form. A sac of cells is created into which a protein called keratin is secreted.

These cysts are usually found on the face, neck, and trunk. They are usually slow- growing, painless, freely movable lumps beneath the skin. Occasionally, however, a cyst will become inflamed and tender.
Treatment of sebaceous cyst is surgical removal.
Surgical excision of a sebaceous cyst is a simple procedure to completely remove the sac and its contents
Thanks

Hi thanks for your question.
Your having sebaceous cyst on right side of your neck.Sebaceous cyst has got infected that is why its size has doubled. When cyst is infected it cannot be removed completely,so first infection is treated with antibiotic or if abscess has formed,it is drained.Probably she has called you for drainage of abscess .When abscess is drained and infection is treated completely only then cyst can be removed completely. She may plan to remove the cyst at a later date.
Hope this answers your question.
