Semen Analysis Done After 7 Days Of Abstinence. Will This Affect Sperm Analysis Result?

my husband had his first semen analysis after 7 days of abstinence. the Sperm count result turned out to be very low which is only 0.2 million/ml. PH is 8. Motility after 30 minutes ( progressive Motile: 20%, sluggish Motile: 20% and Non-Motile:60%). And about the sperm Morphology: Normal 60%, abnormal 40%. Do you think 7 days of abstinence can affect the sperm analysis result?

HI DEAR AND WELCOME TO HEALTH CARE MAGIC...
DEAR a 7 days abstinence is good for optimum results....we recommend at least 4 days abstinence and encourage 7 days abstinence before semen analyses...so result shows oligospermia ...so now consult a sexologist ,urologist,or endocrinologist...
wish you a very good health...

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Vandana Khare's  Response
Hi!thanks for the query!Abstinence of 7 days is alright and it is not the cause of low sperm count.Semen analysis report of your husband shows low sperm counts along with low per cent of progressively motile sperms.it should be at least 32 according to 2010 WHO guidelines.A single sperm analysis report however does not confirm any diagnosis so dont worry and take care!

OBGYN Dr. Rubee Khattar's  Response
ideal period of abstinence is between 3 and 5 days. both shorter and longer periods of abstinence can affect the result adversely.
The mentioned sperm count is way below the normal. Most common reason is improper collection of semen.
Ensure proper collection and repeat semen analysis as advised before coming to any conclusion
