If I were your treating doctor for this case of severe cough with pregnancy I would come up with these possibilities, 1 Allergic bronchitis , can be confirmed by physical examination by a physician as pollen , dust , mite, smokes, hay sudden rise & fall of temperature may be the reason. So consult one more doctor and take bronchodialtor for bronchoconstriction and you will get quick relief from cough. 2 Since you are 31 weeks pregnant , hence plenty of fluid in various forms will relieve dehydration , since you didn t mention about vomiting and diarrhea , so in my opinion less chances of dehydration. 3 As far as concerned about viral infection it will cure within 5-7 days spontaneously & only paracetamol is sufficient .
