Severe Hair Fall. Using Morr F, CM Plus Capsules. Safe To Use Minoxidil To Prevent Hair Loss?

Dear Sir, I am 29 year old male and suffering from severe hair loss for past 3-4 years. My hair use to be very dense and curly till i was 22 and then I started loosing . I understand that hair loss is hereditary and is also favored by stress. I visited a skin and hair doctor who has prescribed me Morr F ( minoxidil + finesteride) , Amenexidil, CM Plus capsules, Cadifast ( multivitamin syrup) , Klinique Shampoo. I have also used SEGALS Solutions from Canada which is a package of serum , shapoo and multivitamin tablets containing a few South African and Canadian herbs, I have been taking Biotin and Follihair tablets for past one year at certain intervals. I have also studied male pattern baldness and reason for hair loss. I am also aware of complete cycle of hair growth and factors ( DHT ) that promotes hair loss. Kindly advice me weather I should go with applying minoxidil (Morr F) as I know that there are several side effects of using minoxidil including infertility, poor sight and skin rashes. Just to inform you that I have a slim built with 5 10 height and around 73 Kgs ; and my forehead sweat a lot in absence of air. I thought informing you about my BMI and excessive sweating may help you in giving better advice.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
There is a dearth of knowledge on net about each and every disease. However not everything being said is compleltely true.
Before I elaborate further, I would like you to know that only two drugs are US FDA approved for male pattern baldness- Minoxidil and Finesteride. Apart from these two we normally add hair supplements with multivitamin esp biotin and minerals like copper, selenium, iron, manganese etc as these are required for healthy hair growth. Similarly supplements like grape seed oil or saw palmetto are said to have anti DHT effect and so are added in oral supplements for added benefit. shampoos or serums as such would not help in better hair growth.
Now minoxidil too works well if hair loss is mainly from vertex or crown and is of less than 10 yr duration involving not more than 10 cm square area. So if a person has advanced stage of hair fall, it wont help. Now as you have been using minoxidil since one yr we need to assess the hair growth or response achieved in terms of decrease in hair fall, increased hair thickness and density. if you feel nothing has improved then minoxidil wont help you out.
As far as side effects are concerned, minoxidil may lead to irritation of scalp, itching etc. However these are not commonly seen. Sexual side effects which are reversible is seen with finesteride.
Hope that answered your query.
take care
