Severe Headaches. Not Pregnant. What Else Could Be The Reason?

Hi there, for the past week now I have been getting really bad headaches and a feeling of sickness. It happens every time I start cooking the evening meal and about to eat (between 6pm-8pm). I m a 42 year old female and have been celibate for 10 years and so cannot be pregnant. I d really appreciate any insight, many thanks!

Hello and welcome to HCM,

At the offset let me tell you that your innocence is endearing.

Headache can be caused by a variety of causes and not just pregnancy. But since you described a periodic headache that narrows our diagnosis.

You can assume it to be just a sinus headache and start a course of antibiotic like the amoxycillin-clavulanate 625 for five days along with a pain killer like paracetamol after food. Your doctor will know about these.

Also do steam inhalation and take only warm fluids.

If you do not get better then you need to take a CT of the brain and the sinuses and get back to me with the reports

get well soon and do not worry

regards

Dr Sriram Nathan
