Severe Osteoarthritis In Shoulders, Pelvis. Have Misaligned Kneecaps. Acupuncture Helpful, Losing Strength. Solution?
Hi Dr. Grief, I have severe OA in my right shoulder, moderate in my left. I have OA on the right side of my pelvis. I have a fused L4 and L5. I have misaligned kneecaps. The right shoulder and knees are my biggest problems. I get acupuncture treatments regularly for almost 2 years and it has been very helpful especially with the shoulder. My concern is that I am losing strength because I don t exercise and can t use my right arm for lifting or carrying. I am 64 and I am not overweight. I do not take any pain medication. I eat a very anti inflammatory diet. Any suggestions? Peggy
Hello. Thanks for writing to us. The loss of strength can be related to the severe osteoarthritis that you are having. You can start with bisphosphonate therapy and calcium supplements after consulting your orthopedician. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
