Severe Pain After Knee Operation, Advised Ibruprofen, Codeine Phosphate. Is It Safe ?
Hello, I had a knee operation three weeks ago ( arthroscopy and medial meniscus repair ) and I am still experiencing a lot of pain. I am taking ibruprofen 400mg 4 hourly and codeine phosphate 60mg 4 hourly (i.e pain relief every two hours). I was prescribed 2 x 500mg paracetamol four hourly but these do not seem to help much (and they make me sick), but the 1 x ibruprofen isn t quite enough, is it safe to take 2 x 400mg? When I have been prescribed co-codamol in the past I the dose was also 2 x 500mg.
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
Since you are not getting adequate pain relief, you can increase the doses of Ibuprofen provided you are not prone to gastric acidity. A physical examination is necessary to rule out any post op complications like hematoma and infection.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
