Severe Pain In Jaw And Temple After Getting A Crown In Right Lower Molar. On Ibuprofen. Suggestions?

Hello,
I am looking for a solution to my severe jaw and temple pain. I recently got a crown put in on my right lower molar, it has been nearly two weeks and I'm still experiencing severe jaw pain. I'm having trouble opening my mouth to eat and I'm taking 800 mg ibuprofen for the pain but as soon as it wears off, the pain is unbearable. Ay suggestions?

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

According to your clinical history i suspect that there may be presence of high points in the restoration, if present get them trimmed.
Also take an x-ray of the tooth to rule out whether there is presence of any periapical infection.
Take analgesics to reduce pain.
Maintain a good oral hygiene, use antiseptic mouthwash gargles twice daily.

Hope this helps out,

Regards....

Hello ednas,
Thanks for sharing your concern.
If the crown has placed well, the temple and jaw pain will not exists.
I would advice you to visit your dentist soon and get the occlusion and bite checked.
High points has to be reduced for proper occlusion.
If the pain still exists,The crown has to be replaced. If left untreated, this can lead into temperomandibular disorders.
An x-ray of the tooth will help to evaluate the periapical area of tooth.
Maintain the area hygienically to prevent plaque accumulation.
Take care.

Hello there ,

Thanks for writing your query,

Pain in the jaw and temple area post crown placement on the tooth indicates problem with the crown coverage.

If the prosthetic crown is not in OCCUSAL HARMONY with the jaw it leads to pain and discomfort duing chewing and clenching.

The crown needs to be evaluated for any high points and sharp margins that interfere with the nomral occulusion .

consult a dentist and get the crown examined , SELECTIVE GRINDING of the crown will help in resolving the problem.

i hope this helps ,

take care.
