Severe Pain In The Knee And Thigh. Bruise On The Knee. No Injury. What Is It?

I have been having severe pain in my right leg right beside my knee and in my thigh. The pain becomes so intense I can not sleep, move or even eat. I can feel these sharp pains all the way into the tip of my toe. The spot it begins in and is the worst in(beside my knee) has developed a large bruise. It started out as a small bruise and has gradually gotten worse. The pain started out mild and has gradually intensified. I have not bumped my leg anywhere or hurt myself to have a bruise. Not sure what to do, help please!

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, you probably mean to say that you have an inflammation- which could be a cellulitis (infection), Deep vein thrombosis or Gout (uric acid related arthritide). In the absence of more information, it is difficult to make out exact cause. I would suggest that you see a doctor urgently, for any of the above conditions should be taken seriously.
