Severe Tooth Pain. X-ray Shows Wisdom Teeth Infection. Panadol, Amoxicillin Taken. Suggestions?

hi , I had a couple of fillings done in December. soon after the filling I started having severe pain which goes away within 10 minutes of taking panadol . went to my dentist & he said because the filling was deep so it will take time for the nerve to settle down. I spent about three months usually taking 2-3 panadol tab every day. I went back to my dentist & this time he took an x-ray & said its an infection in the wisdom teeth & it needs to be taken out. I am confused because I don't have any swelling. I am taking amoxicillin at the moment. don't really want to take out the wisdom teeth is there any thing I can do to prevent future infection?

Hi user thank you for posting your query. Well your histroy looks like you have a deep dental caries with pulpal involment .As your dentist said there is infection .you mentioned which comes down with antibiotics and pain killer. Now to prevent the further infection you can undergo root canal treatment .but this depends on your tooth position and angle ,most of wisdom tooth doesnot erupte in aliment.so for further advice your x ray has to be seen. For needful treatment visit near by dental clinic.get rct if tooth is in proper position and angulation .or exaction in titled or not in right position. Hope my answer will help you.warm regards Dr.leeladevi, dentist ,Bangalore

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

The exact cause of toothache has to be evaluated and treated accordingly.

If the restored tooth has infected pulpally, root canal treatment has to be done.

Wisdom tooth if infected, has to be extracted .

If left untreated,it can lead into spread of infection into tissue spaces or sinuses.

Take care.

hi...
thanks for the query...
if your dentist has found infection in wisdom tooth and is confident about it, then you should go for its extraction...
we generally don't insist the patients for extractions and motivate them for conservative procedures...
but for wisdom tooth infection, extraction is usually the priority... because it hardly plays any role in mastication in our mouth... and can cause problems in future also due to reinfections... so go for extraction and no need to have any doubt about it...
take care....

Hi
Thanks for query,
If x-ray really shows that the pain is due to wisdom tooth then extraction is the treatment.
If deep fillings is the reason for pain then root canal treatment is advisable.
So ,thorough clinical and radiographic examination is necessary.
Take care
