Severe Weight Gain, Taking 1500 Calories Per Day. Possible Metabolic Condition?
I have gained 33# in the past 21 months and I am unable to lose wt. I am training for 2 sprint distance triathlons plus running events in between (training 6d/wk) and keep my calorie intake to ~1500-1600kcals per day. Could you tell me the possible metabolic conditions to look into that would cause such a rapid wt gain? Thanks! Susan Kopins

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Possible conditions for your increase in weight: 1. Hypothyroidism. Look for TSH level. 2. Steroid intake or endogenous increase in steroid secretion(Cushings)
If you dont have any other symptoms then look for these conditions.
At adulthood there will be change in weight due to fusion of epiphysis. But since your intake is restricted and heavy work, I advice you to consult your board certified doctor for examination once to look for if any problem.
Hope I answered your question. Consult your doctor for further examination and management. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries. Wish you good health. Take care.
Regards
