I have had a sharp pain in my right side, for three days. I feel bloated, and the pain is worse after I have eaten, but is there most of the time. When i lie on my left side it makes the pain worse on the right side. When I laid on my stomach every time I breath in and out it felt as if liquid or something was sqeezing out of something in my right side. I have had a headache on and off for the last three days. When I'm walking I sometimes get sudden stabbing pain in my right side and have to bend over with pain .

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM
You need proper clinical examination and investigations.
Investigation includes routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Lipid profile,Urine RE/ME,Ultrasound of abdomen,Upper GI endoscopy.
There may be various reasons for pain.
Clinical findings and investigations can exclude many conditions and treatment can be done accordingly.
You can take tablet pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before food for one month.
For headache you can take paracetamol tablet.
Get well soon.

General & Family Physician Dr. Mohammed Kappan's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your query at HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query in detail. Abdomen is known as a magic box. That is because, many organs are present in the space and are interconnected by the peritoneum (Covering of organs within the abdomen). So an infection or condition at one part can be sometimes misjudged due to pain in the surrounding region.

Only way to get a correct diagnosis would be to get it examined by your family physician. He/she can examine and then guide you for further investigations such as ultrasound scanning of the abdomen. Meanwhile for a general guidance, I would need a bit more details of your pain. Please let me know the following.

- Where exactly is the pain? Right/ Left, Upper/Lower abdomen?
- How does the pain get relieved? Is it by itself, or do you take any medications for the same?
- May I know your age and gender?

It is not right to take pain killers or antibiotics until at least a doctor examines and has a probable diagnosis for the same.

Hope this guides you for a proper health care. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards

General Surgeon Dr. M Y Shareef's  Response
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
From you history of pain on the right side of abdomen specially after food accompanied with bloating sensation, the diagnosis goes more in favour of gall stones with infection of the gall bladder (Cholecystitis). Whenever there is intra abdominal infection, there will be pain which may be severe on movement due to inflammation of the local parietal peritonium. That is why you have got pain on movements. Apart from the cholecystitis, there are a few other conditions which can give rise to similar symptoms, but I do not want to confuse you by just telling you the names.
If I would have been your doctor, I would first examine your abdomen followed by investigations like CBC, Blood sugar, LFT, S Amylase and Lipase, followed by an ultrasound abdomen to confirm my diagnosis.
In such a provisional diagnosis of cholecystitis, you should avoid fatty food which may aggravate your pain, and you can go for an anti spasmodic for an immediate relief. But you have to consult a general surgeon to diagnose the condition by physical examination and investigations for further management.
Thank you for using Health Care magic forum for your health query. I wish you an early recovery. Thanks and good luck.
