Sharp Rectal Pains On Sneezing Or Coughing, Returns After Bowel Movements, No Pain During Bowel Movements, History Of External Hemorrhoids. What Could This Be?
Hey doctors. I have a sharp, knife-like pain in my rectal, whenever I cough or sneeze . This pain strikes again whenever I step off of a stool or sidewalk. Everyone says that it s just hemorrhoids . Hopefully that is true but I ve experienced external hemorrhoids before and they were not this painful. During my bowel movements I feel no pain but afterwards, the sharp pain returns. Could you please help with find an understanding of this problem?
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
Your symptoms are suggestive of an anal fissure. This is a condition when there is a small split in the lining of the anus which can lead to pain and / or bleeding. These usually heal on their own and do not require specialized treatment. At this stage, the following measures will help:
a, Eat a high fiber diet. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables; whole grains and water.
b. Cleansing this area more gently
c. You can apply a cream with a muscle relaxant and a local anesthetic. One such cream is ANAPROCT cream.
d. Apply petroleum jelly to this area.
e. Sitting in a tub of hot water with some salt added to the water will also help.
Hope this helps
