Should Amoxicillin Be Started For The Ear Infection?

My son has been prescribed Amoxicillin for an ear infection, this isnt the pink stuff but yellow in colour. He had a temperature for 3 days (40 degrees) this has now subsided but he is still very uncomfortable. I am currently giving him Nurofen and Calpol but wondered if I should start the antibiotics?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that he has an ear infection and the yellow stuff is nothing but pus and is indicative of infection only..
Fever also seems to be due to lingering ear infection..
I would suggest you to continue giving him calpol to reduce fever and nurofen for pain but you should definitely start giving him oral antibiotics as well as ear drops like Gentamycin to reduce infection..
In case if the ear discharge is in excess consult an Otolaryngologist and he can manually drain out pus for reducing infection faster..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
