General & Family Physician 's  Response
Shivering is not reported as a side effect from taking Bethanechol, although it can rarely cause sweating. But I don't think theses effects are due to the drug in your father's case.

It looks more like a case of infection mostly at the site of surgery.
I would recommend a fever medicine like Acetaminophen along with an antibiotic like Norfloxacin. You can consult with your doctor before starting treatment.

Also keep an eye for any danger signs like frank blood in urine, decreased urin output, high grade fever. If any of these signs are present, take him to the doctor or ER.

Hope this answers your question. Thank you.
