Should Effexor Be Gradually Withdrawn While Switching To Trintellix?

My doctor just prescribed trintellix antidepressant to begin taking tomorrow. I have been taking effexor the last 15 or so years. Do I need to get off effexor slowly or can I take the first dose of trintellix in the morning? I am 66 years old and undestand that this drug actually enhanced mental acuity in some older patients - correct?

Hi,

It is best to slowly taper down the dose of Effexor over a period of few weeks (depending on the current dose you are taking) before starting Trintellix. Discontinuing Effexor all at once and taking Trintellix back to back increase the risk of withdrawal symptoms and serotonin syndrome.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
