Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should I Apply Heat To Make Lump In Foot Dissipate Faster Or Could That Area Become Necrotic?
About two months ago a tree limb fell on my foot. Point of impact was directly above the second and third toes. Bruising has gone away but a hard lump about one inch round remains and is painful to touch. X ray was negative for FX. Should I apply heat to make it dissipate faster and could that area become necrotic?
From your description, it appears you may have either a neuroma (a mass of nerve cells that is benign but can be painful), hematoma ( blood clot following injury). neither of these puts you at risk for necrosis. So, warm compress is safe. however, if you notice that the lump is getting bigger, or red and warm, or you are having difficulty with bearing weight then you should see a physician to have it examined. also, if you have not received a tetanus booster shot in the past 10 years, you should get one as soon as possible.
