Should I Be Concerned About Pain And Popping Sound In Chest?
My husband was playing around and picked me up sideways, squeezing my arm into my chest. He wasn t squeezing very hard but when he lifted me my entire chest made lots of popping sounds. I was having a very difficult time breathing. Now I have lots of pain. It s not excruciating but it hurts. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Since it hurts, it could be the sternum and the breast bone that caused the popping sound. When connective tissue move less smoothly over the bones in your joints it makes popping noise. Rib cage stretching exercise under a Physiotherapist can ease up the pain. You can take Combiflam or Naproxen, one SOS when needed to get relieve from the pain and inflammation.
However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, if you continue to experience pain to detect slipping rib syndrome (SRS). Your ligaments and tendons may be damaged, which may cause subluxation in the joints and pain due to SRS. Your treating doctor may recommend you to get X-ray, MRI, CT done to detect pathology causing you discomfort. Get treated at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
