Should I Be Concerned About The Acute Paint In My Left Hand? Underwent Surgery For DeQuervain S Tendinitis 2 Years Ago

I have DeQuervain s tendinitis in my left wrist and have had surgery for this 2 years ago that did not correct the problem. So I left my career as a Massage Therapist and am unemployed. I normally have a constant slight dull pain and only feel more if I lift something. I then make the adjustment, so not usually much pain. Several days ago I began to feel more pain that has worsened the last few days. I don t know if it s because I helped move a small piece of furniture on Sunday or because I have been generally using my hands more for household activities in the last few weeks. I have been cooking a lot and noticed pain when lifting a few heavy pans with my left hand. I also did a deep cleanse two weeks ago and have been eating vegan for 3 weeks now, so am considering the possibility of that connection. And my period started yesterday, so another possible factor. The pain is throughout my hand and mostly around my original surgery area in the thumb and down the wrist. But my whole hand feels cramped and quite painful. Typing right now hurts a lot. And even in resting position it is quite acute. Ibuprofen did not really help. My question is whether this sounds like just a pull from an activity that I did that will pass, or should I be concerned about more serious damage, and how to know the difference. Thanks so much.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi from the complaints you had described and eloborated I would like to rule out other conditions like

1.Since you are complaining of dull pain all around the hand and cramped feeling it could be carpal tunnel syndrome. Your local orthopaedician can rule out this condition by performing nerve conduction studies.

2. Secondly it could be arthritis of the joints of the hand and wrist which could have similar complaints. Orthopaedician can advice you an x ray to diagnose this condition.

3. Lastly it could be the reccurence of dequarvains It could be treated possibly by local injection or redo surgery.
