Should I Be Worried About The Serum Level For Jaundice?
my daughter has Jaundice with below results. She is 9 years old Serum SGOT ( AST ) 208 Serum SGPT ( ALT) 539 Direct Bilurubin 1.00 Serum Alkalane phospate 537 Globulin 4.00 Please suggest level of jaundice if too high or starting stage
Hello and welcome to HCM, The values of SGOT, SGPT, Alkaline phosphatase, and direct bilirubin are raised. SGOT and SGPT are liver enzymes and are raised in damage to the liver cells. Liver cell damage can occur due to infections, drugs, etc. Alkaline phosphatase is raised in case of obstruction of the external biliary tract. This can be due to Obstruction due to stones, intraluminal mass or extraluminal mass. Increase in direct bilirubin again suggests increase in conjugated bilirubin.
An ultrasound abdomen needs to be done to look for presence of stones. You need to consult your doctor with reports for investigations (if required) and appropriate management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
