Should I Be Worried For The Black Specks In The Sputum Since There Was A Sinus Infection And Sore Throat?

I am 20 years old, healthy, never smoked cigarettes for more than a few months and only 1 cigarette a day or less, and have had blood work, EKG's, and a chest x-ray done and all came back fine. I have black specks in my sputum for the past few days, since I've had a sinus infection and sore throat. Is this anything to be worried about? Could it be anything serious/potentially fatal? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to health care magic,

I have to tell you that any colour change in the sputum should be looked into and in this regard i must advice you to do these:

-first of all do not worry as most of the time it would be something harmless and benign.

-take a course of anti reflux medication like pantoprazole in consultation with your doctor

-do not take spicy food

-make sure your infection is under control

-if you do not get better with these then wait for a couple of weeks and if it persists then you must take an upper GI endoscopy and get back to me or any ENT with the report

regards
