Should I Concerned About A Swelling On Forehead That Is Blue And Red?

My son fell and hit his head on the floor. He has an indention a little smaller than a dime. We didnt see anything besides the floor he hit but he landed next to the door hinge and that is about the same size. It has swelled and turned blue and red a little. Should I be concerned.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello!
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
It is normal that after an injury a red to blue swelling will form at the injured area.It is called hematoma and it forms due to the damage of small blood vessels due to injury and leakage of blood in soft tissue.
You don't need to worry,it is not serious and will be better day after day.
You can apply some cold compresses in the area to low down the swelling.

If he have severe headache, nausea, vomits, start to be confused and loss of consciousness you need to seek medical attention.Otherwise you don't need to worry. He will be fine.

Hope my answer has helped.
Take care.
