Should I Consult The Endocrinologist Having Diarrhea, Vomiting And Nausea?

Hi -- I m 30, weigh about 160, have 4 kids (born 2008-2013). After our 3rd baby was born, I started having pretty severe health issues and had nausea, vomiting, diarrhea what started out as 1-2 times a month and within a few months, it was 1-2 times/week. I was living on zofran and phenergin. I saw a gastroenterologist and had an endoscopy, colonoscopy, ultrasound of my liver and gall bladder, and blood work which ruled out anything there (including celiac s). I then saw an allergist, and food allergies were ruled out. I then saw something about hypothyroidism, so I tried that route (I had other symptoms of that that I was able to rule out). My TSH was at a 9 or so. They started me on Levothyroxine, and I am now on 88mcg s. My symptoms improved, although did not fully go away and while the nausea/vomiting/diarrhea got significantly better, it never fully went away. I ended up having my gallbladder functioning tested and that came back normal as well. I had our fourth baby in June 2013, and my thyroid levels never waivered -- as I expected they would from everything I read. I am experiencing some thyroid symptoms again (so I think my # s are high), but hypothyroid never really fully explained the n/v/d. I am trying to get in to see an endocrinologist and recently read about adrenal function. Many of the symptoms of hypo match adrenal issues. However, I read that thyroxine tends to exacerbate those issues, and I haven t noticed that. Is this something worth asking about when I get into see the endocrinologist?

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for asking on HCM, i carefully read your concerns.
As you have noticed your situation is a bit contradictory, your symptoms seems to be similar to a low adrenal function but you reported that the start of levothyroxine improved the situation. Anyway, as you have a thyroid autoimmune disease, it may be associated with other autoimmune diseases and it is worthy to check the adrenal function.

I would suggest you to do some further examinations as;
-Cortisol level at 8 a.m.
-Electrolytes such as: Na, K, Cl, Calcium, Magnesium.
You have consulted a gastroenterologist and i think he suggested you to rule our a problem of high iron level.
After having the results of the above exams, i am opened for further questions.
Hope i was somewhat helpful.

Kind regards,
Dr.M.Guni
