Hi, I am a type 2 diabetic for the past 15 years. Was taking gluconorm SR and recently my Fasting sugar was 26 and post one was 360. my doc changed the medication to gemer 2mg two months back
my blood results are now fasting 160 and post is 250. should i continue gemer 2mg or should i look for some other medication
Gemer is a combination of glyformin (500mg) and glimepiride (2mg). The addition of the glimepiride to your medication would have improved control but your blood sugar levels still need to be tightened.
Since glyformin is one of the first line agents for diabetes and is not associated with weight gain like glimepiride, your doctor may want to consider increasing the dose of your glyformin. The normal glyformin can go up to 3 g a day and the glyformin SR can go up to 2 g a day so you have a lot of from for increase.
I hope this helps
