Should I Continue With Levothyroxine As My Thyroid Level Are Normal?
Hi, when I gave birth I had my blood work done when my baby was about 5-6 months old and they told me my thyroid was low. So, they proscribed me levothyroxine for three months and to do blood work again and if it s good I will stop the meds, but when i went back everything was okay with my blood work and they still want me to take the meds. I stopped taking them for three weeks now and i do have some withdrawal symptoms but they seem to be regulating and i am coming back to my normal self. should i continue this for another month or so and do blood work again or keep taking Levo for another 6months.
Hello, Good day. As you had hypothyroidism after delivery, most likely you had post partum thyroiditis followed by hypothyroidism. 30 % of this can be permanent hypothyroidism. So, it is better to check your Free T4 and TSH and Anti TPO levels. This will give an idea. If the TSH is high, it is better to restart levothyroxine. Your symptoms may be due to low thyroxine levels. Please write back to us after checking Free T4, TSH and Anti TPO Regards Binu
