Should I Discontinue Vivelle Dot Due To Weight Gain?

I had a double oophorectomy in June. Since then I have been taking vivelle dot .25 two patches per week. I ve gained approximately 5pounds since the surgery and can t seem to lose. I am very healthy and active. It scares me and I don t want to gain more. Should I go off vivelle? Or up my doseage? I ve heard both ideas as recommendations.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Vivelle contains estrogen replacement so if it is discontinued you may experience menopausal symptoms.

Medications can cause weight gain through different means:
(1) they can alter appetite
(2)decrease energy and therefore physical activity
(3)alter metabolism

You can try to use foods that would be less likely to cause gain or increase your level of physical activity to compensate.

I hope this helps
