Should I Opt For Another Colposcopy? Can It Lead To Cervical Cancer?

Hi, I recently went to my ob-gyn for a pap smear it came back abnormal, I then was scheduled a polynscopy and it reveled I was positive for hpv. Not knowing how long I had, had it or how long it had laid dorment. In six months I have to go back, should I go back for a repeat pap smear (knowing it s going to come back abnormal) or should I go ahead and schedule another polynscopy? And what are the real statistics it turning into cervical cancer? Thank you!

Cancer of Cervix is associated with HPV and it strongly believe now HPV is one of the most responsible for developing cancer. The statistics differ one study to another. But now we strictly follow - HPV infected persons should be under careful observation. The colposcopic examination is compulsory as it can help to detect the cancer at its early state. The abnormal Pap smear means not the cancer.
The best thing what you should do is following the instructions by your Doctor.

It would have really helped had you given me the detailed report as an abnormal PAP smear can mean a number of things. However, with an abnormal PAP the next step is either a colposcopy or HPV testing depending on the severity of the abnormality. Since you had a colposcopy done i assume that you had a high grade lesion. However, the good news is that the colposcopy was normal and if it was done by a competent person, the chances of you having cancer are quite less. You need to get a repeat PAP done at 6 months and take it from there.
