Should I Repeat The Rabipur Vaccine If It Does Not Work?

I had a dose of rabipur yesterday for stray dog bite (my day 0 dose). But it was administered in the buttock not in the deltoid. I will have my future doses in the deltoid. But do I need to go back and get the first dose repeated in case it doesn t work (so another dose on day 1)? many thanks...

General Surgeon 's  Response
HI.
Nice to know your awareness.
Yes, Rabipur has to be given in the deltoid muscle.
The one you took in the buttock region id not necessarily going to be waste.
It is just the fear of erratic absorption which is supposed to occur if the injection is given in the gluteal (buttock) region as this region has lots of fat.

If you are lean and thin and has no extra fat, this dose in the buttock will work.
As per some guidelines of WHO you can take one more dose on the deltoid region today if you have more fat in the body.
and continue rest of the doses as scheduled.

As also you have to observe the stray dog for 10 days.
I hope you/ your Doctor has taken proper care of the wounds. = do not dress.
