Should I Stay On Prilosec For Gastritis Forever?

Diagnosed with gastritis 5 months ago, had three benign biopsies during endoscopy, was told to stay on Prilosec 20mg. Stopped daily caffeine diet soft drinks (24-32 oz a day at that time) and changed diet. Have no stomach discomfort but still had mild heartburn when I tried to stop Prilosec for a couple weeks. Do I stay on Prilosec forever? Concerned about long-term effect.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

It may recover slowly. Also, check for other possibilities like h pylori infection or lax lower oesophagal sphincter or irritable bowel syndrome or acid reflux etc.

Depending upon the diagnosis treatment may vary. Till then you may continue Prilosec before breakfast.

Please consult your gastroenterologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
