Should I Still Have Swollen Gums Where 8 Teeth Were

Should I still have swollen gums where 8 teeth were extracted on 12.30.15. Everything going well until 1.5 16 swelling of the gums. 1.6.16 went to dentist who said I had an infection. Started taking Augmentin 500 mg on 1.7.16. Went back to dentist on 1.8.16 had the many stitches removed. Dentist said the swelling and infection should start subsiding. When I wake up in the morning the gums aren't swollen but after about 30 minutes or so I can feel the gums swelling. The gums a very swollen now. How long does it take for the medications to kick in? I was taking Penicilln until the dentist put me on the Augmentin.
