Hi,
Thank you for writing to Healthcare Magic.

Normal functioning of thyroid gland is extremely important for our health.
So most of the time one needs to take these tablets life long. Occasionally thyroid functions revert back to normal, when your doctor may stop your treatment and just follow you up with repeat tests.

From your notes it appears that she is not seeing endocrinologist.
See must consult the endocrinologist. She will be asked to do thyroid function tests. She may be asked to do thyroid antibody test and ultrasound of thyroid gland. Based on the results of investigations her medications will be adjusted.

Once test results are normal she needs to consult endocrinologist once in 3-6 months.
I hope I have answered to your satisfaction.

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Shailja Puri's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Thyroid problems have to be regularly monitored with thyroid function tests (TFT).
TFTs have to be regularly performed to check the levels of thyroid hormones.
The dosage of the drugs has to be monitored depending on the levels of thyroid hormones.
Thus, get your wife's TFT done and get the TFTs assessed by your treating doctor for action if required.

Thanks and take care
Dr Shailja Puri
