Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should Nexplanon Be Removed To Prevent Risks Of Blood Clots And Cancer?
I have a history of blood clots and cancer in my family, and I have the Nexplanon implant, which I know can cause both. I know people who have suffered from both after using birth control. I am confused on if I should get it out or not. I also have had forgetfulness, 30lb weight gain in 6 months, and random bleeding from the implant.
Random bleeding and weight gain are known side effects of Nexplanon. Referring to your family history of thrombosis and cancer I would suggest you remove it. It is better if you use other contraception methods like condoms or intrauterine device. A diu can be more suitable.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka , General & Family Physician
