Should Otodex Be Instilled Through The Nose?

Hello, my GP prescribed me otodex to instil one drop twice daily into my nose before food, I don t know why she didn t give me an answer when I asked her, so I know its for eye and ear infections but why into my nose I ve been reading instructions for sofradex which is the same thing and it says not to take by mouth, which is slighty concerning as I can taste the otodex in the back of my throat after instilling it into my nose, what should I do

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

"otodex" is used for ear infection and it is not prescribed through oral or nasal route. you better cross check with your GP before using it through your nose, Otodex contains antibiotics (Framycetin sulfate and Gramicidin) to kill germs and a corticosteroid (Dexamethasone) to stop inflammation. However it won't cause any problems in case you had taken few times through the nasal route. Better to cross check with your GP before using it again through your nose.

Hope I have answered your query.
