Should Supartz Injections Be Stopped When Having A High GFR Rate?
I get supartz shots in both my knees every 6 to 18 months depending on pain. I have recently been told that my GFR rate is in the Stage 3 Chronic kidney failure. Should I discontinue getting these Supartz shots? I am a 70 year old female. The only other drug I take is omeprazole for acid indigestion.
When your kidneys fail, the GFR decreases and in stage 3 the GFR is between 30mi to 59 ml against a normal of more than 90. Since Supartz injection into the knees do not enter the blood, it will not be affected by the kidney function. So you can have your Supartz shots if your doctor agrees. If you are interested in some additional information, please read on. Kidney failure can impair your bone health as kidneys are involved in activating the vitamin D. So the active form of vitamin D in the blood becomes less . This leads to a fall in the calcium level in the blood and increase in the Parathormone hormone and can damage your bones. So your doctor may give you Calcium and an activated form of Vitamin D3 . Wish you good health Dr. Noble Zachariah
