Should A Shingrix Shot Be Taken To Prevent Shingles?
My wife had shingles at age 58. She is 60 now. I am 61 and I have not had shingles, and I did have chickenpox. We are considering the shingles vaccine, Shingrix. Should we get it soon? or wait? I think my odds of getting shingles increases as I age, and the vaccine has a limited useful life. So maybe getting the vaccine as age 65 or 70 is better?
Shingles vaccination is a live attenuated virus vaccine indicated for prevention of herpes zoster (shingles) in individuals 50 years of age and older. Shingles vaccination is not indicated for the treatment of zoster or postherpetic neuralgia. Shingles vaccination should not be used for prevention of primary varicella infection (Chickenpox).
