Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should A Doctor Be Consulted For Persistent Dry Cough And Headache?
My daughter has a persistent dry cough for about a week, she has no temperature, drainage or mucus. Her throat and head sometimes hurt but not all of the time. I have been treating her with Dayquil/Nyquil and now switched to Robitussen cough suppressant. Should I take her into the Doctor or wait a few more days to see if it just passes.
A fever and cough in a child may be due to viral respiratory tract infection. Also, possible flu or respiratory syncytial viruses or hemophilus or pertussis etc.
Avoid cool drinks and cold water. Use warm compression over the chest, use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days.
Use Paracetamol in case of fever. If symptoms not improved please consult your pediatrician immediately.
He will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu,
